It all began in a class during the BA program in English Language and Literature at Shahid Beheshti University, when Professor Nojoumian talked about an academic discipline entitled “Children’s Literature” which had long been recognized in the world but was taking its first steps in Iran. In addition to my passion for literature and my love for kids, the belief in the fact that childhood experiences have a deep impression on human lives made me determined to choose this path for my life. Later, I began the MA program in children’s literature at the same university and started my career in creative writing for children as well. Despite the views of some activates of the field who see these two as separate isles, I found that the experience I gain in creative writing and the knowledge I get in the academic field perfect each other in many ways. So I aim to go as further as possible in both paths. I attended many workshops and educational courses on creative writing for children and learned from great masters of children’s literature such as Fereydoun Amuzadeh Khalili. But I couldn’t go on further in the academic path in Iran as there were no PHD program offered and we were still in need of expert professors of the field even at the level of the MA program. So, I made up my mind to fulfil my wishes for the future of children’s literature in Iran by studying somewhere with a rich academic background of the field and under the supervision of great professors who pioneered in children’s literature studies.
